Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam: A Brief Introduction
Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam (full name: Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam) was the 11th President of India, serving from 2002 to 2007. He is also known as the ‘Missile Man of India.’ He was born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu.
Early life and education
Kalam’s childhood was quite challenging. He came from a poor family and even had to sell newspapers to complete his education. He went on to study Physics and Aeronautical Engineering.
Scientific career

Before becoming president, Kalam was a distinguished scientist and science administrator. He played a crucial role in India’s civilian space program and military missile development efforts. He is especially known for the development of ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology. He had a central role in the 1998 Pokhran-II nuclear tests, which established India as a nuclear power.
“As President”

As president, Dr. Kalam gained recognition as the ‘People’s President’. He placed a special emphasis on connecting with the youth and inspiring them towards science, technology, and nation-building. He believed that the participation of young people was extremely important for India to become a developed nation.
Honors and Legacy
Dr. Kalam was honored with several prestigious awards, including the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor. He passed away on July 27, 2015, while delivering a lecture in Shillong.
